We are very proud of our Youth Council members and the work they do in the YMCA and local community. The Youth Council is made up of Young YMCA Bolton members. This dedicated group of around 8 Young People meet on a weekly basis to discuss issues in the Basement Youth Club, the Bolton local area, national and global issues.
Democracy values and leadership skills are taught to young people thanks to planning events and being involved in many projects.
The different activities and events the Youth Council have been involved in during the year 2014 are :
- Special events held in the Basement Youth Club
- The World Challenge Event 2014
- Met and talked about issues facing Young People with Julie Hilling MP
- A 10 day trip to visit the European House of Parliament and to work with four youth councils from Germany, Spain, Ukraine and France
- Involved in the recruitment and interviews of new YMCA staff through a youth panel
- Offering peer support for Octagon Theatre Young People for their play called “The Descendents”.
Since September 2015, the youth council has been mainly involved in events for the Drop-in Youth Club such as the Valentine’s Do. Members were also engaged in debates about current issues for instance the Refugee Crisis.
