For bookworms Aged 5-11
Craft a Story is one of our star projects, which is now in its eighth year running in the Tonge Moor area, having also run in the Johnson Fold and Breightmet area.
The sessions are used to help children improve on their literacy, encourages creativity through crafts and allows children to learn simple BSL. Children are encouraged to read and are provided with a larger range of reading materials. As a reward for reading children are given a book to take home and keep every fortnight, to help promote children to read a home. Young people love this element to the sessions and are very excited when it’s book week.
We are developing strong links with the primary schools in the local areas and are linking each term with the local school’s syllabus. We have explored many topics from space to traditional tales as well as looking at famous authors such as Roald Dahl. We have also introduced a reward chart to encourage children to do well and try in these sessions. This has been a great success.
